Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

1. What types of tile can be installed in my home?

Ceramic tiles, porcelain, limestone, marble, slate and glass to name a few. There are even tiles made up of steel now. Each material has its own benefits e.g. porcelain, it is quite durable, more so than ceramic tile meaning it is difficult to scratch. Some styles have the quality of being what is known as, “full body porcelain” meaning that the tile has the same color and style throughout making small chips and scratches virtually invisible.
Some benefits of ceramic tile is that because it is so easily manufactured, prices are typically low. And, it comes in a very wide variety of colors and patterns.

2. What are the benefits of having tile installed on my floors vs. wood or carpet?

Well, there are many reasons we can think of to have tile installed on your floors. First off, tile is easier to clean. Ceramic and porcelain tiles resist water, stains and grime meaning fewer stains.

There is also the point that tile is much more aesthetic than most other floorings. Intricate designs involving mosaics and other delicately cut stones such as marble or stone, greatly enhance the visual appeal of your home.

And, to boost off of the last point. Kitchen remodeling or bathroom remodeling is actually a very cost-effective means of increasing the value of your home. That is according to multiple sources including, BYOH.com, Realtor Magazine, DirectHomeDiscount.com and HandyAmerican.com

One site states, "Bathroom renovations especially prove high performers. On average 102% return on investment for minor bathroom remodeling. . . Kitchen remodeling follows closely behind with a 98.5% recoup. Both types of renovations increase a home’s chance of making a quick sale."
Another says, "Many times you can earn $2-3 on every $1 you spend. That means remodeling your home can actually earn you money."

3. Who installs the tile within my home or office-building?

We have over one dozen crews and where each crew consists typically of a professional tile setter and his helper you are certain to get superior service and timely installations. We also send out the estimator who walked the job to periodically check up on the work to ascertain that the only the highest quality of workmanship is being produced. Our Project Manager, Fredy is kept busy every day visiting large-scale jobs and keeping an eagle eye out on our men.

4. How easy is it for tile to be installed in my home?

Well, that question depends on many factors such as past installations, conditions of the floor and/or walls to be set. But, let's say you currently have some old tile throughout your home. Well what luck! Because to give you a relevant example, we recently removed three bathrooms full of tile and their fixtures, a laundry room's counter-top and floor, an entry way and a hallway in two days. That's a lot of tile!

-After the removal, your contractor goes around your home replacing all of the Sheetrock we tore off of the walls. (Tile cannot be removed from your walls without tearing the Sheetrock down as well.)
-We then do what is called floating where our professional tile setters, mix and lay a concrete-like mixture on your floors and walls to level-out the surface and to create a moisture-resistant barrier. One tile setter can float an average-sized bathroom floor, tub and vanity countertop in one day.
-Then comes the installation, this can take up to two days for a standard bathroom floor, tub and vanity countertop.
-Grouting is done in the next day and takes only a few hours. The grout cures in one day and, voila! Your bathroom has been beautifully tiled!

5. What does it take for the maintenance and cleaning of my tiled floors?

Every floor is different, but generally porcelain is the easiest to maintain because of its low absorbency rate and since it is a tough material: scratches, cuts and cracks will be avoided thus keeping pockets of dirt to a minimum. Natural stone varies from being brittle to soft both of which take a little extra care but they always have an unmistakable beauty.

For stone flooring we recommend a simple solution: warm water and a soft sponge or mop. Never use abrasives because those will scratch the finish and be very careful with chemicals, even those for natural stones because harsh chemicals may remove the sealer we installed. That leaves your newly tiled floor vulnerable to moisture and stains.

Ceramic and porcelain are easy to clean. Warm water and some mild detergent will get the job done with a good mop. Mild abrasives can also be appropriate for porcelain and ceramic tile although you probably won't have to use them on a regular basis.
